Which means 1 milliliter is broken into 1 billion parts. If 75% of 1 billion is identified as cocaine then the results are expressed as parts per billion or PPB. The tests are very sensitive and precise. 1 milliliter is about a size of a glass of water. This tests breaks in to 1 billion pieces that is precision.There are different fields of tests available in which a tester puts a drop of urine in the chemically treated sheet of paper. If that paper changes the color then the drug is detected. A thin layer of chromatography helps in detecting about 40 different drugs at one time. This test is done by mixing a drop of urine with a gel like thing and spreading the mixture on the microscopic slide. One edge of the slide is dipped in to a chemical solvent. The solvent and the gel separate the various chemical from the urine and organize them into different groups. Each spot that appears on the slide indicates the various drugs present in the urine. The lab technicians will be able to tell by the color and size of the spot that how much drug content is available in the urine. If there are no spots then there is no drug content. The test would cost between 10 to 25 dollars per test. TLC is one of the cheapest tests available. If this result shows positive then the urine has to be sent to the confirmation test.
